The 2013 Austin Regional Golden Gloves kicked off January 29th and ended on Friday February 1st at the Travis County Expo Center. Austin Kickboxing Academy had a small team go out and represent with only a good solid month of fight preparation. We may not have come out with any championship wins (except Brittany whose one opponent pulled out due to injury), but we are very proud of what our team displayed and their accomplishments! On the first night, Nhan and Israel fought hard, with Nhan losing a close decision and Israel winning his first bout with a stoppage in the second round. No one was scheduled for the second night, then on the third night, Israel had his second bout, but lost another close decision. Some hard lessons were learned on the process of how these bouts were scored and judged, but a fighter tends to learn a lot more coming out of a loss than a win. On the last night, Eddy had his bout in the Master’s division. He went up against a younger and more experienced fighter and did great besides those odds.
We want to thank the rest of the team and the families that went out and supported our fighters and represented AKATX! It was our first competition as a new team, and it definitely will not be the last. Read more about the event on Austin Fit Magazine’s blog, which gives mention to a couple of our fighters.
If you’re interested in competition, come in and train as often as possible. We’re already training for next year’s Golden Gloves! Check out photos from the event below!
